This last Sunday, May 8, Peru and much of the world celebrated the Mother’s Day, this date being one of the most anticipated by a large part of the population. However, the journalist Renato Cisneros generated a marked discussion on social networks, especially in Twitterafter his last article published in “Somos”.

The former RPP driver proposed in his text to discuss the celebration of this holiday in Peru after his last family experience in Spain. The journalist was surprised after his youngest daughter arrived home on the first days of May without the traditional gift or craft made in schools to commemorate mothers.

Renato Cisneros proposes to eliminate the celebration of Mother’s Day

Given this, Renato Cisneros revealed that in Spain the elimination of the Mother’s Day since 2010 considering that it discriminates against a large number of families of other genders, as well as children who live with a relative other than their mother. The press man pointed out that this date should also begin to be discussed in Peru for the same reasons.

“Since then, several schools have eliminated Mother’s and Father’s Day festivities, considering them not only obsolete but also potentially discriminatory and even psychologically harmful for children who belong to single-parent families or who are raised by other relatives (a aunt, a grandfather). This exclusion extends to the children of homosexual couples who, according to the 2019 Continuous Household Survey, make up more than 100,000 households nationwide in Spain.”, he indicated in part of his column.

“In Peru, a debate like this would be interesting, because it would put under the magnifying glass highly accepted conservative rituals, socially and commercially exploited ad nauseam, and questioned by the very reality of the new families. While the time comes to face such a discussion, let the children give away cards alluding to Mother’s Day tomorrow, and the parents rack their brains not to give away a new blender”, he added.
