New Delhi . Global smart device brand OPPO has emerged as the leader in ‘Made in India’ smartphone shipments in the first quarter of 2022. It has registered a growth of 22 per cent (YoY). This has been given in a new report on Monday. According to Counterpoint Research, ‘Made in India’ smartphone shipments grew 7 per cent in the first quarter of this year to reach 48 million units, due to rising exports as well as rising demand for smartphones in India.
Despite the global spares shortage, the local smartphone manufacturing ecosystem remained resilient and Oppo displayed an exceptional performance emerging at the top as it achieved the maximum share of smartphone shipments.
Prachir Singh, Senior Research Analyst, said, “Oppo has consistently focused on not only expanding its manufacturing capabilities in India, but has also automated many processes, thereby increasing production capacity. This allows Oppo to better optimize its supply chain. as well as attracting many other parts players.”
Overall, in 2021, shipments of ‘Made in India’ smartphones have crossed 190 million units.
The reason for the continued growth is the support of various initiatives of the Government of India to increase local manufacturing.

According to the report, India’s handset manufacturing is expected to grow at 4 per cent year-on-year in 2022.
OPPO with its manufacturing unit in India has been a key player in contributing to the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative.
The company said it will continue to improve its performance with its R&D and manufacturing to maintain market position and overall performance.
