New Delhi: In 1984, a case was filed in the Supreme Court to protect the Taj Mahal in Agra, Uttar Pradesh from environmental pollution.
A security zone was created around the Taj Mahal. Those who had shops around the Taj Mahal were allotted space 500 meters away. In this case, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of these shopkeepers. It was said that many people are engaged in illegal business activities within 500 meters around the Taj Mahal.
The petition came up for hearing in a bench comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and AS Oga. After that, in the order issued by the judges, the Agra Development Board should ensure that the orders already issued regarding the protection of the Taj Mahal are followed. All commercial activities should be stopped immediately within a radius of 500 meters from the perimeter wall of the Taj Mahal,” they said.
