Mumbai The number of deaths in the horrific road accident that took place in Kurla, Mumbai on Monday night is continuously increasing. So far, the deaths of 6 people including 3 women have been confirmed. 30 people were seriously injured after being hit by a BEST bus. The injured are being treated under the supervision of doctors.
According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Afreen Anam Shaikh (20), Abdul Salim Shah (19), Kaneez Fatima Ghulam Qadir (55), Vijay Vishnu Gaikwad (70), Shivam Kashyap (18). One has not been identified yet. About 43 people are said to be injured in the accident. Police said the accident took place at 9.50 pm in front of Anjuman-e-Islam School on SG Barve Road in Kurla (West). An out of control BEST bus hit several vehicles. A video of which is becoming increasingly viral on social media. In the video, a bus can be seen running over people at high speed.
After the incident, a crowd of people gathered at the spot. Some injured were also taken to the hospital by auto. After the accident, traffic was disrupted at the accident site. Senior police officers reached the spot. The injured were taken to Bhabha Hospital as well as other hospitals. Police said that there were about 60 passengers in the bus at the time of the accident. According to the information received, the brakes of a bus leaving Kurla station had failed. The driver lost control of the bus.
In panic, the (bus) driver pressed the accelerator instead of pressing the brake and the speed of the bus increased. Due to loss of control of the bus, 35-43 people came under it. After this entire incident, senior local police officials reached the spot and started investigating the entire matter. According to senior police officials, the bus driver has been arrested. On Tuesday, the forensic team also reached the spot and is collecting evidence.
