Barcelona (EFE).- The Barcelona Public Health Agency has declared an outbreak of monkeypox (Mpox) in the city, following the detection of six cases in the last month, with no epidemiological relationship between them.
Two of the cases were detected in July and the other four in August and it seems that the people affected would have been infected outside of Catalonia, according to El Periódico.
In statements to RAC-1, the deputy director general of Public Health Surveillance and Emergency Response of the Generalitat, Jacobo Mendioroz, has assured this Friday that they are specific cases and has estimated that there will not be a spread like last year, when more than 2,000 cases of monkeypox were detected in Catalonia.

Monkeypox is a disease caused by a virus of the smallpox family that from July 23, 2022 to May 11, 2023 has constituted a Public Health Emergency of International Importance due to the outbreak that occurred worldwide. during those months.
It is mainly transmitted during sexual intercourse and its main symptom is skin lesions.
