New Delhi. Following the success of ChatGPT, apps with the term ‘AI Chatbot’ or ‘AI Chat’ on the Google and Apple App Stores grew by 1,480 per cent (year-on-year) in the first quarter this year. According to analytics firm Apptopia, 158 such apps have arrived on the store this year (till March).
Downloads of AI chatbot apps grew 1,506 percent in the first quarter, and in-app purchase (IAP) revenue grew 4,184 percent year-over-year.
“The public launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT product has created an artificial intelligence gold rush, including in the realm of mobile apps,” said Adam Blacker, VP, Insights at Apptopia.
The top 10 AI chatbot apps accounted for 52 percent of all AI chatbot app downloads and 72 percent of their IAP revenue in Q1 2023.
Blacker informed, “Genie, like most of these apps, generates revenue by charging users to moderate the app’s usage. Genie is expected to be the second most downloaded app ever and second highest revenue generator in 2023.” Wala is an AI chatbot app.”
Most of these apps are built by independent developers and have the potential to eventually surpass even big brands like Microsoft and Google because of their marketing power.
Microsoft’s search app has already been rebranded as Bing – your AI co-pilot.
The report noted that since the announcement of its integration with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Bing’s average daily downloads have increased by 1,000 percent.
