Digital Desk, Colombo. Sri Lanka’s Minister of Labor and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakara said that in 2022 so far more than 200,000 Sri Lankan citizens have gone abroad for jobs. He said that these are the people who have registered with the Foreign Employment Bureau of Sri Lanka.
The minister said remittances remitted by migrant workers to Sri Lanka reached $325 million in August, an increase of 16.4 percent over July.
The minister said around 330,000 people are expected to leave Sri Lanka to work abroad by the end of this year. The Minister expressed gratitude to the workers who have remitted money through the banking system at a time when the country is facing a shortage of foreign exchange.
