The Padma Awards for 2024 were announced on Thursday (25 January) on the eve of Republic Day. Of these, 5 will be given Padma Vibhushan, 17 will be given Padma Bhushan and 110 personalities will be given Padma Shri award. Actress Vyjayanti Mala, Venkaiah Naidu have been selected for Padma Vibhushan and Mithun Chakraborty, Usha Uthup have been selected for Padma Bhushan Award.
The Padma Shri award for 2024 is being given to people who were anonymous till now. These include the names of the country’s first woman mahout Parvati Barua and Jageshwar Yadav, both residents of Assam. Apart from this, there are many big names in the list including Charmi Murmu, Somanna, Sarveshwar, Sangtham.
There are 30 women among the Padma awardees. Among these, there are also 8 people from foreign/NRI/PIO/OCI category. There are 9 celebrities who are being given awards posthumously. Earlier on January 23, the government had announced to give Bharat Ratna to former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur.

1. Parvati Barua
Parvati Barua, who belonged to a royal family of Gauripur, Assam, had a special love for animals from the beginning. Especially from elephants. This love of his became the goal of his life and he decided to devote his entire life to the service of animals. She is also a member of the Asian Elephant Specialist Group, IUCN. Many documentaries have been made on his life. She is also very active in saving elephants.

2. Chami Murmu
Padma Shri recipient Chami Murmu has provided self-employment to 28 thousand women in the last 28 years. Chami Murmu has also been awarded the Nari Shakti Award. President Ram Nath Kovind gave her this honor in a program organized at Rashtrapati Bhavan on International Women’s Day in 2019.
On International Women’s Day in 2019, President Ramnath also honored Chami Murmu with the Nari Shakti Award.
3. Jageshwar Yadav
Tribal welfare worker Jageshwar Yadav from Jashpur has also been selected for Padmashree. Jageshwar Yadav from Chhattisgarh is 67 years old. He is being honored with the Padma Award for Social Work (Tribal – PVTG). He dedicated his life to the upliftment of the marginalized Birhor and Pahari Korwa people.
Established an ashram in Jashpur and worked to eliminate illiteracy and improve standard health care by setting up camps. During the pandemic, hesitancy was removed and vaccination facilities were provided, which also helped in reducing infant mortality. Despite financial constraints, his passion for bringing about social change remained.
4. Dukhu Majhi Tribal environmentalist Dukhu Majhi from Sindri village of Purulia, West Bengal will be given Padma Shri in the field of social work (eco-afforestation). He planted more than 5,000 banyan, mango and blackberry trees on barren land while traveling to new destinations on his bicycle every day.
5. Hemchand Manjhi
Hemchand Manjhi, a traditional medicinal practitioner from Narayanpur, Chhattisgarh, will be given Padma Shri in the field of medicine (AYUSH traditional medicine). He has been providing affordable healthcare to villagers for more than five decades. He started serving the needy at the age of 15.
Sangthankima, a social worker from Aizawl who runs ‘Thutak Nunpuitu Team’, Mizoram’s largest orphanage, will be given the Padma Shri in the field of social work (children).
8. K Chellammal
Organic farmers of Andaman and Nicobar. Chellammal (Coconut Amma) received Padmashree in the field of Others (Agro-Organic). He successfully developed a 10-acre organic farm.
9. Gurvinder Singh:
Gurvinder Singh, a 52-year-old disabled social worker from Sirsa, Haryana, worked for the betterment of the homeless, destitute, women and orphans and disabled people. With his unwavering dedication, he established a child care institute to take care of 300 children and named it Bal Gopal Dham.
Provided free ambulance services to more than 6,000 people. These also include accident victims and pregnant women. He was paralyzed from the waist down after being hit by a truck and despite being confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life, his priority is to work for the welfare of others. He is being honored with Padma Shri in Social Work (Disabled) Is.

Last year 106 Padma awards were announced
In the year 2023, the President had approved 106 Padma awards, which included 6 Padma Vibhushan, 9 Padma Bhushan and 91 Padma Shri. 19 awardees were women. Among the awardees, 19 are women. Seven people have been selected for this honor posthumously. Padma honors are one of the country’s highest civilian honors and are awarded in three categories – Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.
