Three Palestinian students were shot in the city of Burlington, Vermont. The incident took place on Saturday evening when an unknown assailant armed with a handgun opened fire on students who were walking on the street near the University of Vermont. One of them remains in critical condition.
Police said the assailant approached without saying anything and fired four rounds. He fled from the area after the incident. The police said that the search for him is going on. Two of the injured are US citizens and the other is a permanent resident.
Following the attacks by Hamas on Israel, there were many anti-Islamic protests in the US. Meanwhile, there is a shooting. The police also said that they were wearing kafia, a traditional West Asian dress, at the time of the incident. The American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee blamed racism for the attack.
At the same time, the investigating officers said that the accused has not been caught yet and it is not clear what motivated him to attack, so it cannot be said that the reason for the attack was racial hatred.
The families of the students demanded that the incident should be properly investigated and justice should be done. She said that such incidents should not be repeated and safety of children should be ensured.
Meanwhile, Hamas announced on Sunday that the brigade commander in charge of northern Gaza, Ahmed al-Khandour, and three top military leaders were killed in an Israeli strike. However, it is not clear that they were killed in the attack. Ahmed al-Khandour is one of the most prominent Hamas leaders killed in the war so far.
Apart from the brigade commander, another prominent figure killed was Ayman Ziyam, the head of Hamas’s Al Qassam wing’s rocket unit. Ahmed survived several assassination attempts by Israel.
