Education Minister Kay Ponnudi spoke on Hindi at a graduation ceremony at Bharatiyar University in Coimbatore on Friday. He said that Tamil Nadu has two languages English and Tamil. “If English is the international language, then Tamil is the local language. If we learn Hindi, we will get jobs. Did you come? You go and see who sells panipuris in Coimbatore,” he said. He also said that we are learning English as an international language and questioned what other language is required.
Ponnudi said Tamil Nadu was at the forefront of the education system in India and Tamil students were ready to learn any language. He, however, said that Hindi was only an optional language and not mandatory. There is a debate going on across the country on the implementation of the Hindi language. Recently, it is known that Kannada superstar Kicha Sudeep has commented that Hindi is not the national language. In this regard, there was a war of tweets between Hindi star hero Ajay Devgn and Sudeep.
