The Paraguayan Federation announced the dismissal of Argentine coach Daniel Garnero from coaching the national team, after a series of losses for the team and its early elimination from the group stage of the “Copa America 2024” tournament.
The Paraguayan national team bid farewell to the current edition of the “Copa America 2024” competition, currently being held in the United States, from the first round, after finishing at the bottom of Group Four, without achieving any victory, after losing its 3 matches.
Paraguay began their campaign with a 1-2 defeat to Colombia in the opening round, before losing 1-4 to Brazil and 1-2 to Costa Rica in the second and third rounds respectively.
The Paraguayan Football Association published a statement on its official account on the “X” website, stating, “We thank the coach and his entire coaching staff for their commitment, dedication and professionalism throughout their work with the Paraguayan national team. We wish them success in their future projects.”
Garnero took over as coach of the Paraguayan national team last September, succeeding his compatriot Guillermo Barros Schelotto, but he did not achieve the desired results with the team, which achieved only two wins in the ten matches he played with it.
The new coach who will succeed Garnero in his position will be tasked with restoring balance to the Paraguayan national team in the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Paraguay is ranked seventh in the qualifiers, in which the ten teams belonging to the CONMEBOL Federation participate, after collecting 5 points from its first 6 matches in the qualifiers.
Paraguay will play hosts Uruguay in the next round of the qualifiers in September, before hosting Brazil three days later in the following round.
