Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the new Parliament building on 10th December 2020. Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the building on May 28 this year and dedicated it to the nation. This new building is highly secure, modern in construction and has many features. The new parliament building is much bigger than the old parliament building and has many state-of-the-art facilities. The old Parliament building has a library, lounge and chambers along with seating arrangements for MPs. Apart from this, there is also a canteen where subsidized food is provided to MPs and journalists. But now many people are asking what will be done with this historical building.
The Old Parliament Building was built in 1927 by British architects Sir Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker. Now this building is 97 years old. However, according to the central government sources, the old building will be repaired and changed according to the current requirements without demolishing it. Sources in the Lok Sabha Secretariat said that the government is planning to renovate the old Parliament building and use it for government purposes. It seems that a part of the building will be converted into a museum so that the people of the country can know the history of the Indian Parliament.
According to sources, the central government is planning to develop this building as an important historical heritage of India. A special team has been formed for the renovation of the old Parliament building. Some reports say that they are in the process of preparing a blueprint for the building. The National Archives in this building will be shifted to the new building. This space in the old building will be used as a meeting room or for other purposes.
The new building of Parliament has many special facilities like chamber for MPs, rest area, library, canteen. The new Parliament building has a total area of 64,500 square feet. It has 880 seats for Lok Sabha and 300 seats for Rajya Sabha. 1280 seats have been arranged for the joint assembly. Even if the constituencies are redistributed in the future.. this building has been constructed without any inconvenience for all the members to sit. The new Parliament building has several layers of security, with state-of-the-art technology including sound sensors.
