Baniyas and Al-Bataeh clubs announced the dismissal of their coaches, Portuguese Joao Pedro Sousa and Croatian Goran Tomic, respectively, from their positions due to negative results in the ADNOC Professional League.
Baniyas had suffered a heavy loss against Khor Fakkan 2-5 in the 11th round, while Al-Bataeh lost to Al-Jazira with an unanswered goal.
The Baniyas Club said, in a statement, on its account on the “X” platform: “The company announces the termination of the contract of the coach, Joao Pedro Souza, after a comprehensive study of the team’s performance during the last period,” adding: “The decision to leave the Portuguese coach came out of the club’s management’s keenness to Achieving the aspirations of its fans and enhancing the team’s results in the next stage of local competitions.”
The Baniyas Club statement did not reveal the new coach who will succeed Joao Pedro in his new mission, as it was limited to thanking the Portuguese coach for the period he spent with the team, and the professional manner in which he dealt with the club.
Portuguese Joao Pedro Sousa took over as coach of Al-Samawi last summer, succeeding Slovenian Darko Milanic, after the latter’s contract expired. He led Al-Samawi through 11 league matches, in which he achieved two victories and a draw in the same, while he suffered seven losses, conceding 28 goals, and scoring Only 13 goals, ranking 11th on the league standings.
On the other hand, Al-Bataeh Club announced, in a press statement yesterday, that it had reached an agreement with coach Goran Tomic, to terminate the contract between them by mutual consent, and said: “It was decided to appoint the coach of the under-23 team, Mohamed Al-Raisi, to lead the team temporarily,” and his first task will be in front of… Al-Orouba, tomorrow, in the opening of the 12th round of the league.
Al-Bataeh suffered with its coach Tomic, after finishing in second-to-last place with five points, only two points ahead of Al-Orouba, which finished in last place, and they became strongly threatened with relegation to the ranks of first-class clubs.
Al-Bataeh achieved only one win with Tomic, tied two matches, and conceded eight defeats, scoring 14 goals, while conceding 27 goals.
Thus, the number of coaches who have been dismissed since the start of the current season rose to six, as the guillotine of coaches’ departures began with the fifth round, when Dibba Al Hisn sacked its Brazilian coach, Caio Zinardi, after the harsh loss to Al Jazira 1-6, and the Khor Fakkan coach, the Romanian Isela, departed after The seventh round ended, due to poor results, and the team bid farewell to the President’s Cup after losing to Ajman 1-2 in the round of 16, and bid farewell to the Abu Dhabi Bank Cup tournament. Al-Islami, after losing to Al-Sharjah back and forth.
The dismissals also affected Al Ain Club, which decided to terminate its contract with Argentine coach Hernan Crespo, after the heavy loss it suffered from Al-Nassr Saudi Arabia in the AFC Elite Champions League, which was an extension of a series of disappointing results for Al-Zaeem during the current season at the local and foreign levels.
Al-Wahda dispensed with Norwegian coach Ronnie Dayla, after the end of the tenth round, and his loss to Sharjah by two unanswered goals, so that the team moved away from the struggle to compete for the league title, after it had bid farewell to the President’s Cup tournament by losing to Al-Wasl.
