Digital Desk, Brussels. About 35,000 protesters gathered on the streets of Brussels to protest against the new Corona restrictions. The march started at around one o’clock in the afternoon. Outside Brussels North station, protesters raised slogans of Freedom, Fear is a Bad Engine or No to the Pass. Police were forced to use water cannons and tear gas shells to stop violent protesters who fired fireworks at officers, Xinhua news agency reported.
Police said the situation has now returned to normal and transport connectivity has reopened. New measures to prevent corona infection cases came into force in Belgium on Saturday, where the use of masks is mandatory in areas where a Corona Secure Ticket (CST) is required. Officials are expected to meet again in January 2022, asking people to respect the 1.5 meter social distancing rule indoors and limit social contacts outside, though no bubble will be imposed yet.
Nightclubs, public and private events of more than 100 people indoors and outdoors will also require the use of CSTs and masks.
