The president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, has proposed in an interview with TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio that the dialogue table between the Government and the central Government to negotiate the holding of a referendum be opened to Junts and CUP, with whom we share objectives , which is the rest of the independence movement and all those who also defend the referendum, to be part of the delegation that defends the position of Catalonia,” he maintained.
However, the party led by Laura Borràs and Jordi Turull has denied that the president of the Generalitat has offered them to be part of the Catalan delegation at the dialogue table. Through a statement, they reminded him that Junts “was vetoed” by Aragonès himself when both parties were part of the Catalan Executive.
The president of the Generalitat has defended that in the next four years an agreement must be reached “so that Catalonia can vote on independence” and has claimed that the negotiation must be between governments and not between parties. “The negotiation must represent the two countries, Catalonia and Spain, the two societies and those who represent them are the institutions,” he stated during the interview.
Aragonès has called to take advantage of the strength that the independence movement achieved in the general elections of 23J, with which agreements have been reached for an amnesty law and to continue on the path of dialogue: “We have a historic opportunity, because Catalonia has never had this decisive weight in Congress,” he noted.
Elections in 2025 and assessment of the new Government
Aragonès has been in favor of exhausting the legislature and sets the next elections to the Parliament in February 2025: “At this moment, I do not see any foreseeable scenario that would lead me to call elections.” Asked about possible confrontations between him and Oriol Junqueras, he rejected it: “We have seen them in all colors.”
Regarding the new Government of Pedro Sánchez, Aragonès did not want to assess its composition and limited himself to saying that “the facts will indicate whether it is the correct composition”, beyond the names and people.
