Hence, every year 9th February is observed as ‘National Food Safety Day’. Despite strong opposition from several organizations including the food safety and environmental advocacy organization ‘Alliance for Sustainable and Holistic Agriculture’ (Asha), the GM mustard crop was recently approved.
In a statement released by Asha yesterday, “There are plans to hold various kinds of protests across the country on the 9th of National Food Security Day to condemn the central government for allowing the cultivation of GM mustard.” It has been called upon to cooperate with like-minded organizations.
