New Delhi: The public has said the Perth facility alone is not feasible and unsafe for children who have been introduced to sleeping with their mothers on trains.
A new Perth facility has been introduced for mothers to sleep with their children on trains on Mother’s Day. The new facility has been introduced on the Northern Railway Lucknow Mail Train Perth facility for children on a trial basis. The small berth is made exclusively for the baby next to the regular, bedside facility. The seat also has an iron bar to keep the baby from rolling over.
The Ministry of Railways had posted on its Twitter page about the new facility. Many members of the public have expressed their views.
Commenting on the new facility, journalist Fay D’Souza said, “No mothers were consulted when designing this new facility.”
Aditya Raj Kaul said, “It is a good plan, but the format needs to be further improved. We need to consult with experts, especially on security facilities.”
“Good effort, but the baby will sleep inside Perth, so next time the new area is longer, the mothers will have more space to sleep,” Patel posted.
Another person said, “Good idea. Maybe what if someone in the upper berth spilled a handful of bottles or tea?” That begs the question.
Preethi posted, “Despite the flaws in this form, it would be even better if there was more space. Women traveling by train with children face many hardships. Someone in the ministry has thought about this.”
Farooq said, “What a wonderful project. Maybe what if someone sleeping in the upper berth at night went downstairs when the lights were off. Who designed it, gave permission. It’s not convenient. It’s dangerous for children.”
Kavita Nair said, “It would be nice to hear from mothers about this. Although this is a good start, the shape of the new berth does not seem safe.”
