—Lorduy: Incredible, incredible to be able to collaborate with an artist who has been positioned for a long time. For us, he is a legend. He is an artist that we respect, that we admire as an artist and as a person, because one thing is that you are seeing me on a stage and another thing is having him in front and that he is looking you in the eyes, talking to you, giving you advice.
—Have you ever had a song with an important artist that you never managed to release?
— Juan David Huertas ‘The teacher’: Yes, we have songs with artist friends, songs with Karol G, with Mau and Ricky, we even have something with Maluma that didn’t come out either. The thing is that no song is guaranteed to be a single, but the important thing is to make them because that is part of the creation process.
—Is there a particular artist with whom you would like to collaborate?
— David Escobar Gallego: Many of us, from the Latin world, Alejandro Sanz, respect him a lot; Juan Luis Guerra, we love it. In the urban area there are Bad Bunny, Rauw Alejandro. In the English world, Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Ed Sheeran. There is still a lot of music to be made.
How does Piso 21 deal with fame?
—The popularity and fame that you achieved thanks to your work has a very positive part, but would you say that it also has a negative part?
— David Escobar Gallego: No, everything is positive, nothing negative. When you love what you do, you know that it entails certain types of things that you have to learn to live with. The only thing that may bother many artists or public people is that, sometimes, one is in a restaurant, one is eating and they ask for a photo. That is one of the moments when one has to handle things well. But you know what, you have to remember that you are working for it.
—And how do you deal with this situation? Because I imagine it must be complicated that they are spending time with their family and have some type of interruption.
— Lorduy: Everyone handles it in their own way. When they approach us for a photo, we give it to them with the greatest pleasure, with a lot of love, but they also try to respect the spaces when we are eating. And about family, those are sacrifices that one has to make. The family knows what one has to do in this world and the dreams one has. They know that we work for them.
—What would you say are the benefits of belonging to a group instead of being a soloist?
— Lorduy: Lean on a member, we are not only partners, we are brothers. So, what a cool thing to be able to lean on someone when you’re having a bad day or receive advice. For example, with ‘The teacher’, who is the oldest, I can ask him for advice. It’s good to have a brother you can lean on.
Piso 21 will perform on Saturday, May 25 at the Lima Music Fest 2024 along with other incredible artists: Sebastián Yatra, Mike Bahía, Greeicy, Nacho and Beéle.
