PlatinumGames has announced the closure of World of Demons.
The Japanese developer announced this hack-and-slash for mobile devices in April 2018 together with DeNA (Pokémon Masters, Mario Kart Tour, Fire Emblem Heroes) with the intention of launching it in the summer of that same year.
However, we had to wait until April 2021 to play it. It was surprise launched on the Apple Arcade subscription service and mentions of DeNA’s involvement in the project disappeared.
Before turning three years old, its imminent closure of servers has been announced.
On January 18, the ability to redownload World of Demons on new devices will be removed. On February 1, the servers will be closed and it will be impossible to play it, even if you already had it downloaded.
No reasons for the closure have been stated; The brief message simply sends a message of gratitude to the players of the title.
The most recent news we had from the studio was the departure of Hideki Kamiya (Bayonetta, Okami, Resident Evil 2) in October of last year. Due to his contract with Platinum, Kamiya will not be able to work in the video game industry for a year.
