BiharNalanda University, a heritage for the country and the world, has been reborn today. The initiative to ignite education in Nalanda was taken two decades ago and now steps have been taken to take it forward. PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the new campus of Nalanda University on Wednesday.
The new campus is near the ancient ruins of Nalanda University, which was established under the Nalanda University Act, 2010. The Act follows a decision taken at the Second East Asia Summit held in the Philippines in 2007. Before inaugurating the new campus of Nalanda University, Prime Minister Modi visited the ruins of ancient Nalanda in Rajgir.
Gautami Bhattacharya, Superintendent Archaeologist of Archaeological Survey of India, Patna Circle, gave information to the Prime Minister about the ancient ruins. Not only this, PM Modi also planted a sapling here. Along with PM Modi, Bihar Governor Rajendra Arlekar, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and ambassadors of 17 countries were also present at the inauguration ceremony of the new campus of Nalanda University.
Nalanda University was established in the fifth century, where students from all over the world came to study. Nalanda University was a major and historical center of education in ancient India. It is considered to be the world’s first residential university, where students and teachers lived on the same campus. According to experts, this ancient university flourished for 800 years before being damaged by invaders in the 12th century.
