The construction work of the country’s new parliament building has almost been completed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived to visit the new Parliament on Thursday evening. There he spent more than an hour and inspected the building.
During this, the PM took stock of the facilities being prepared in both the houses. He also interacted with the laborers engaged in the construction of the Parliament. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla was also present with PM Modi.

The central government had launched the Central Vista redevelopment project in 2019, which also includes the construction of a new parliament building. PM Modi had laid its foundation stone on December 2020. The cost of the entire project is 20 thousand crore rupees.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Virla was also present along with the Prime Minister. The plan of the Lok Sabha floor in the new Parliament House has been kept on the theme of the national bird peacock.
New Parliament House ready, finishing work pending
The new triangular shaped Parliament House is ready under the Central Vista Re-Development Project. Its finishing work is going on. Shastri Bhawan, Udyog Bhawan, Rail Bhawan, Vigyan Bhawan and Indira Gandhi National Museum adjacent to Rajpath will now become a part of memories. New buildings will take their place.
The new building is 17 thousand square meters bigger than the old parliament building. Its architect is Bimal Patel.
Project started in 2019, cost 20 thousand crores
Under the project, many buildings are being re-developed and constructed from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate. This includes the new Parliament House, which will have one building each for the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, the Central Secretariat for the offices of the Ministry, the Prime Minister’s residence, the Vice President’s residence.
The new Parliament building has been built in front of the present Parliament House. This four-storey building is in 13 acres. The Prime Minister’s residence will be in about 15 acres. The project was announced in September 2019.
This building is completely earthquake resistant, whose design has been prepared by ‘HCP Design, Planning and Management Private Limited’.
New building being built on 13 acres
The proposed four-storey building is being built on 13 acres. It is just a short distance from Rashtrapati Bhavan. Earlier the project was expected to be completed before the 75th Independence Day. Later the deadline was extended. Under the Central Vista Redevelopment Project, the new triangular Parliament House, Prime Minister’s residence, PMO, Up-Rashtrapati Bhavan, a common Central Secretariat and the corridor from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate are being renovated.
The Prime Minister spent more than an hour in the new Parliament. During this he also interacted with the officials.
Why is the new building being built?
The current Parliament House was built 95 years ago in 1927. In March 2020, the government told Parliament that the old building was overutilized and was deteriorating. Along with this, there is not enough space in the old building to accommodate the MPs who will increase after the new delimitation of Lok Sabha seats. For this reason a new building is being constructed.
The officials informed the Prime Minister about the facilities available in both the Houses.
