The abolition of the constitutional right to abortion in the United States will cause powerful protests, and a wave of street violence is not excluded. On Friday, June 24, the American political scientist Eduard Lozansky told Izvestia.
“This will cause powerful protests, since the topic is very sensitive for both conservatives and liberals. Considering the religious component, disputes over the right to abortion have always been one of the key issues in elections. After the cancellation of the previous decision, the balance will be upset. There are already signals that there will be mass demonstrations, a wave of street violence is not ruled out,” he said.
The political scientist pointed out that serious demonstrations even caused information leaks during the session of the Supreme Court, that is, before the final decision was made.
According to him, now after the vote, the topic will become “number one” in the United States.
“Now the Republican states will ban abortion one by one. In democratic states, the right to choose will remain, ”he added.
The U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on abortion rights in the country was overturned earlier in the day.
The repeal of that 1973 ordinance means that the nation’s federal laws no longer guarantee abortion rights. Going forward, abortion rights will be determined by the states unless Congress takes action.
