The results of the counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (UAF) will affect the reputation of US President Joe Biden, as well as determine further assistance to Kyiv from Washington. This opinion, according to the newspaper Politico, is shared by some senior representatives of the US administration.
So, if the Ukrainian side manages to succeed on the battlefield, it will be able to count on new supplies and funding. Otherwise, there is a high probability that the West will want to resolve the conflict through diplomacy as soon as possible.
It is noted that the failure of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will become a weighty argument in favor of the Republican Party, whose representatives actively oppose pumping Ukraine with money and weapons, and also criticize the current head of state, who encourages this trend.
Meanwhile, White House spokesman John Kirby stressed that the United States does not exclude serious losses during the offensive of Ukrainian forces and is ready to provide Kyiv with the necessary support.
In turn, Joe Biden said that the collective West has done everything possible to prepare a counteroffensive for Ukraine. He argues that the United States will continue to provide financial assistance to Kyiv, despite statements to the contrary by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
On June 6, it became known that McCarthy did not plan to pass legislation that would increase military aid to Ukraine and other defense spending beyond the levels allowed in the bill signed by Biden.
Prior to this, on May 25, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu noted that the West had already pumped up Ukraine with more than $65 billion worth of weapons, and in return it demanded to demonstrate tactical successes. He also added that more than 2.5 thousand foreign mercenaries are involved in punitive actions and hostilities.
Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine against the background of Russia’s special operation to protect Donbass, which the Russian authorities announced on February 24, 2022 amid the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
