Ukrainian Ombudsman for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova was fired for spreading fake news. Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, wrote about this on Tuesday, May 31, on Twitter.
“Ukrainian Ombudsman Denisova was fired for spreading fake news about alleged abuse and rape of minors in territories not controlled by Ukraine,” he wrote.
Polyansky also wondered who would be fired next for spreading fakes – adviser to the head of the presidential office Oleksiy Arestovich or Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky himself.
Earlier on the same day, MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak said that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine had dismissed Denisova from her post. 234 deputies voted “for”. It was noted that a new candidate for the post has not yet been nominated.
The day before, Denisova announced that the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky planned to declare no confidence in her. According to her, such actions are illegal and can be regarded as pressure.
Denisova has served as the Ombudsman of Ukraine for Human Rights since 2018.
On March 4, Tatyana Moskalkova, Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, pointed out that her Ukrainian colleague Denisova had renounced agreements to provide assistance to prisoners of war. According to her, she asked Denisova to visit those who are in Ukrainian captivity. Moskalkova, for her part, expressed her readiness to provide assistance to citizens of Ukraine who find themselves in places of captivity on the territory of the Russian Federation.
