The letter was delivered to the thirteenth floor of the Commission’s Brussels headquarters, where Von der Leyen has his office. The entire floor of the Berlaymont building was then evacuated by order of the fire brigade. Von der Leyen was supposed to be traveling, but was unexpectedly in Brussels on Friday.
Fortunately, the administrative employee who came into contact with the powder letter “shows no symptoms”, the fire service says. The emergency services are dressed in safety suits and have set up a mobile laboratory on site. If research shows that the powder is harmless, the employee is allowed to go home and the floor is released again. The fire service expects that in the course of Friday afternoon.
