New Delhi: The President has approved the appointment of 5 judges of the Supreme Court after accepting the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium.
In a tweet issued by Law Minister Kiran Rijiju in this regard, Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court Pankaj Mittal, Chief Justice of Patna High Court Sanjay Karol, Chief Justice of Manipur High Court Sanjay Kumar, Patna High Court Justice Asanuddin Amanullah and Achalagabad High Court Justice Manoj Mishra have been appointed by the Supreme Court. He said that the President has appointed as judges.
As per the provisions under the Constitution of India, Hon’ble President of India has appointed the following Chief Justices and Judges of the High Courts as Judges of the Supreme Court.

He also mentioned that senior judges of Rajasthan High Court, Patna High Court and Manipur High Court will act as their respective Chief Justices. Accordingly, Manindara Mohan Srivatsava of the Rajasthan High Court, Chakradhari Sharan Singh of the Patna High Court and Muralitharan of the Manipur High Court have been appointed as Chief Justices. Law Minister Kiran Rijiji congratulated them all.
Earlier, the Supreme Court Collegium asked the Union Law Ministry to appoint Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court Pankaj Mittal, Chief Justice of Patna High Court Sanjay Karol, Chief Justice of Manipur High Court Sanjay Kumar, Patna High Court Justice Asanuddin Amanullah and Achalagabad High Court Justice Manoj Mishra. The recommendation was made on December 13 last.
While this recommendation of the Supreme Court was shelved, the Supreme Court raised a question about it yesterday. Responding to this, Attorney General Venkatramani said that the central government will issue a notification in this regard by next Sunday (February 5).
In this case, Union Law Minister Kiran Rijiju has issued an announcement in this regard. A top official of the central government has said that this announcement has nothing to do with the question raised by the Supreme Court.
It has been informed that the 5 newly appointed judges will take office next week. With this, the number of Supreme Court judges will increase to 32. It is to be noted that the total number of Supreme Court Judge posts is 34.
