The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, said that Serbia wants to use in her country a model similar to the annexation of Crimea by Russia, but that they will not allow this, reports Anadolu.
In an interview for “La Repubblica”, Osmani spoke about the latest situation in the region, namely the killing of a Kosovo policeman as a result of the opening of fire by an armed Serbian group on September 24 in the north of Kosovo and what happened afterwards .
“We have irrefutable evidence. On the 24th of this month, Serbia launched an attack and is now preparing for a new attack by reinforcing its troops and artillery on the border with Kosovo. This is a different situation than what we have seen in 25 years. “Serbia is still guided by the mentality of (former president Slobodan) Milosevic and tries to erase everything that the USA, the EU and our people have achieved in two decades: peace, stability and freedom”, declared Osmani.
Asked if he thinks Belgrade wants to invade Kosovo, Osmani said: “They have always had territorial claims. They want to use (Russian President Vladimir) Putin’s model for a Crimea-type annexation. Of course we will not allow that. We are working with NATO forces to protect our hard-won freedom and independence.”
“They want to enter Kosovo and take a part of our territory. There is a lot of evidence that the situation is disturbing. Serbia must know that it will face a people determined to defend its freedom no matter what. It must know that NATO is also with us”, emphasized President Osmani, adding that the US is realistic about raising the alarm regarding their regions.
Osmani further said that Serbia has historically been interested in the north of Kosovo.
– Osmani criticized the EU for Serbia
Claiming that the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, has abused the EU’s approach to him, Osmani said: “It created tensions and destabilized the region, but the EU did not take measures against Serbia. This is the only country in Europe that does not sanctions against Putin”.
To the question of whether or not Putin is behind this latest crisis in Kosovo, Osmani answered: “Definitely yes and they don’t hide it. They support Serbia politically, economically and militarily. This crisis is in Russia’s interest. It wants conflicts in European territories draw attention from Ukraine in the other direction”.
The President of Kosovo, Osmani, states that she has not currently planned any conversation with the Serbian President, Vučić.
