According to reports, the date of the presidential election was decided at a meeting of the heads of the judiciary, government and parliament. First Vice President Mohammad Mokhbar has been appointed the acting President of the country. The helicopter of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi went missing in the mountainous area of Iran’s northwestern province of East Azerbaijan on Sunday. Its debris was recovered on Monday morning.
The death of the team members including the President and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was confirmed in the accident. According to the report, Article 131 of Iran’s constitution states that if an Iranian President dies while in office, the Vice President has to take over as acting President to run the government.
The Vice President has the right to remain in power only for 50 days. A new President is to be elected for Iran within these 50 days. The report states that registration will be done from May 30 to June 3 depending on the program. After this the candidates can campaign from 12th to 27th June.
