New Delhi: Congress MP Sasi Tharoor has criticized the speech delivered by President Draupadi Murmu as being like an election campaign speech.
Sasi Tharoor while talking to the media regarding the speech given by the President Draupadi Murmu at the opening of the budget session of the Parliament, said, “The President of the Republic does not contest (parliamentary) elections. But with the President’s speech, it looks like the BJP is starting its next election campaign with him. The
Raupathi Murmu’s entire speech was an election campaign speech. He has praised all that the government has done. The President has not mentioned anything about what the government has failed to do,” he said.
Commenting on the President’s speech, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said, “The speech of the President of the Republic is usually the speech of the government. And so it was. His speech emphasizes what the government wants. We (Congress) appreciate the President’s speech. We (Congress) will express our opinion during the debate on the President’s speech.
There are various things against the Govt. One by one we will raise it in Parliament. The President’s speech made no mention of employment. We and the public see this government as a failed government. They are talking and not doing anything. In the budget session, we will raise questions on issues like inflation, unemployment, China border issue,” he said.
Commenting on the President’s speech, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference Party President Farooq Abdullah said, “The speech was good; “Good text,” he said.
