All available free power generators, as well as a mini-power plant, will be delivered to Odessa. Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmygal spoke about this on February 4 in his official Telegram channel.
“Today in the Odessa region there was a technological accident at one of the high-voltage substations. <...> The situation is complicated, the scale of the accident is significant, and it is impossible to quickly restore power supply. <...> I instructed to deliver to Odessa all the powerful generators that are in the Ministry of Energy within 24 hours. A 25 MW gas turbine power plant provided by our partners in the United States is also to be moved to the city,” he said.
According to Shmyhal, he also instructed the country’s Foreign Ministry to contact Turkey in order for Ankara to provide additional support in the form of power ships. According to the politician, at the moment the most important issue is the connection to the network of critical infrastructure and apartment buildings, the heating of which depends on the electricity supply.
The prime minister also noted that the head of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and the head of Ukrenergo would go to Odessa to coordinate the process.
As the head of the Odessa military administration Maxim Marchenko said in his Telegram channel, on February 4, due to an accident at a substation, about 500 thousand people living in Odessa and the region were left without access to power supply.
It is known that on Saturday morning an autotransformer failed at one of the high-voltage substations. Ukrenergo explained that it was due to the fact that the transformer itself was regularly damaged.
Earlier, on February 2, the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy reported that the situation with energy supply in Ukraine had improved. The department explained this by the fact that repair work was completed at some power units of thermal generation.
