New Delhi: Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi said on his Twitter account yesterday that state governments were being blamed for high fuel prices, coal shortages and lack of oxygen. About 68 per cent of the total tax on fuel is borne by the central government. Yet Prime Minister Modi is shirking his responsibility. Prime Minister Modi’s federal system is not about co-operation, it is about coercion. Thus said Rahul Gandhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday said that & lsquo; & lsquo; when the federal government reduced the excise duty on petrol and diesel last November, it asked the states to reduce the VAT. But many states ruled by opposition parties have not reduced VAT. This not only causes injustice to the people of that state but also harms the neighboring states & rdquo; said.
