New Delhi. Today is the third day of the winter session of Parliament. The beginning of the session has been quite turbulent. The opposition has created a ruckus on the Adani and Manipur issue for the last two days. Meanwhile, today Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi took oath as a member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha.
Priyanka Gandhi, who won the elections from Wayanad, took oath with the Constitution book in her hand. Congress MPs held a meeting before Priyanka took oath. Congress leader Ravindra Vasantrao Chavan was also sworn in as MP in the Lok Sabha after winning the by-election from Nanded Lok Sabha seat with 5,86,788 votes. Priyanka defeated Satyan Mokeri of Communist Party of India (CPI) from Wayanad seat by a margin of 4,10,931 votes.
In Wayanad, the Congress party’s stronghold, there was a triangular contest between Priyanka Gandhi, BJP’s Navya Haridas and CPI’s Satyan Mokeri. This has never happened in the parliamentary history of the country when at least one member of the Gandhi family has not reached the Lok Sabha. There have also been such occasions when 5-5 members belonging to the Gandhi-Nehru family reached the Lok Sabha together.
After Rahul Gandhi in the current Lok Sabha, his sister Priyanka Gandhi also reached Parliament. Rahul and Priyanka’s mother Sonia Gandhi has been a Lok Sabha MP for a long time. At present she is a Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan. This will be the first time that the Gandhi family mother and her two children will be MPs together.
