New Delhi: Senior Supreme Court jurist Ashwini Upadhyay has filed a PIL in the Supreme Court. In it, “Central and state governments should be ordered to prevent fraudulent conversions. Also various petitions have been filed against the prohibition laws of various state governments. I also do not support the Anti-Conversion Act. No objection. My petition is different from this. This should be investigated separately,” he said.
The petition came up for hearing yesterday before a bench headed by Chief Justice TY Chandrachud. Then the Chief Justice said, “All the petitions related to conversion will be heard together for now. The hearing on these petitions will be held on March 17,” he said.
UP 7 state governments have enacted Prohibition of Religion Act. Some have filed petitions in the Supreme Court challenging these laws. The petition came up for hearing on the 3rd before the bench headed by Chief Justice Chandrachud. At that time, notices were sent to all the 7 states to respond to these petitions.
