New Delhi: Indian wrestlers and female wrestlers protested demanding a police investigation into the sexual assault allegations against Indian Wrestling Federation president Brij Bhushan Charan Singh.
In January, there was a complaint that Indian Wrestling Federation President and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Charan Singh had sexually harassed female wrestlers. Following this, India’s leading female wrestlers, including Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Sangeeta Phogat, wrestler Bajrang Punia and others, joined the protest against Brijbhushan Singh.
However, alleging that no action was taken against him, wrestlers and female wrestlers staged a protest in Delhi. In this, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia and others participated. Speaking then, they said, “Police should file a First Information Report against Brij Bhushan Charan Singh and investigate him. We are engaged in the struggle to emphasize this. If the police do not take action against Brij Bhushan Charan Singh we will file a case in Supreme Court. We will mobilize support from all sides.
It was our mistake to end our struggle three months ago. Then we took up the mediation effort. We will not accept this time. We will not let anyone deceive us. We want justice. You (journalists) should ask why the government is silent. When we win medals for the country, we are applauded. Now we are on the road with our demands and no one cares,” they lamented.
