Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani urged his country’s athletes to honor Iraq and compete strongly for medals in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Al-Sudani said while receiving the delegation of the Iraqi Olympic team, which won the third ticket on the Asian continent in the football competitions at the Paris 2024 Olympics, “We do not want to attend Paris as a number, but rather we want an active sporting presence competing for medals.”
He added, “This achievement was achieved thanks to your efforts, through which you proved that you are worthy of the responsibility. It is a great victory for Iraq and confirmation of the victories achieved in all fields. You, like the Iraqi teams, were able to unite all the Iraqis, who stood to encourage the team.”
He stated, “We have achieved victory and qualified for the Paris Olympics for the sixth time, which is a great achievement that confirms that Iraqi football has returned with strength because the player does not represent himself, but within the green rectangle he represents all of Iraq, and that our support for the sports sector is not a favor or a favour, and sport has today become a political, social and economic interest.” And part of the state’s entity and existence.”
The Iraqi Prime Minister said, “We are ready to go with you to the fullest extent of support, and this is the government’s duty towards all sports. We have players in all sports who represent promising projects to emerge as great players, at the level of the region and Asia, and they have the potential and determination, and Iraq is the only Arab country from Asia that represents football.” Football in the Olympics is a responsibility that you are worthy of.”
He added, “We have defeated terrorism, and today we have won for construction, services, and foreign relations. We have won by achieving stability, and now our victory comes in the field of sports.”
During his reception of the delegation of the Iraqi Olympic team at the government palace, the Iraqi Prime Minister directed that the team members be granted residential plots of land, and a continuous monthly reward, in accordance with the law granting athletes and pioneers, as well as honoring them in the amount of 10 million dinars.
He also directed to honor the weightlifter, Ali Ammar Yusser, who qualified for the Paris Olympics, like the players of the Olympic football team.
