Punjab. Punjab Bandh has been announced on Monday in support of Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been fasting for 34 days at Khanauri border for the demands of farmers. Farmers are agitating for 13 demands including guarantee on MSP of crops.
Farmers closed the highways at 7 in the morning. Farmers have sat on Amritsar-Delhi and Jalandhar-Delhi National Highways. DRM Sanjay Sahu of Firozpur Railway Division said that the farmers have informed the Railways about the bandh, after which 108 trains including Vande Bharat, Shatabdi Express have been cancelled.
The announcement of farmers’ bandh has been supported by many religious and social organizations including SGPC. SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the Central and State Governments should leave their stubborn attitude and accept the legitimate demands of the farmers on priority basis. SGPC offices and its institutions will remain closed on Monday.
A protest was started at 7:00 am at village Manan toll plaza in Tarn Taran district under the leadership of Kisan Sangharsh Committee Punjab leader Baljit Singh Baghel Singh Wala. There is complete traffic standstill here. The number of farmers in the protest is continuously increasing. Farmers have blocked the airport road in Mohali. On behalf of the farmers, they have parked their vehicles on the road and closed it. Due to this, there has been traffic jam in the morning.
