In the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), they are strengthening the work of air defense (air defense), intensifying counter-battery combat, and are also trying to move the line of contact away from large cities. This was announced on January 9 by the acting head of the DPR Denis Pushilin.
He recalled that on New Year’s holidays, Ukrainian troops continued to shell the territory of the republic, including Starobeshevskaya TPP, which came under fire.
“The enemy is trying to inflict as much damage as possible on the inhabitants of the republic and does it in the most vulnerable places. Therefore, for our part, we are increasing the work of air defense, strengthening counter-battery work, ”Pushilin said on the air of the Rossiya 24 TV channel.
According to him, today the main task for the DPR is to move the enemy away from large settlements of the republic.
On January 1, the acting head of the republic said that the air defense system shot down a lot of shells fired by Ukrainian militants on New Year’s Eve in the DPR.
On December 20, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Pushilin, which was their first protocol working meeting since the admission of four new regions, including the DPR, to Russia. Then the head of state called the situation in Donetsk acute, and Pushilin, in turn, asked to increase the number of air defense systems.
After that, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that all possible measures are being taken through the Russian Ministry of Defense to correct the difficult situation in the DPR.
Back in October, Pushilin said that the air defense system in the DPR was being strengthened, taking into account new deliveries of Western weapons that fall into the hands of Ukrainian troops.
Russia’s special operation to protect Donbass, whose residents refused to recognize the results of the 2014 coup d’état in Ukraine, continues. The decision to hold it was made against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region due to increased shelling by Ukrainian troops.
