Biden, who addressed Democratic Party supporters at an event at the Manhattan home of media mogul Rupert Murdoch’s son James Murdoch, made unusually strong remarks about the dangers posed by Putin’s nuclear threats. Reference was made to the nuclear standoff brought about by the Soviet Union’s deployment of missiles during the Cuban War. “Based on current developments, we have a direct threat of nuclear weapons being used for the first time since the Cuban Missile Crisis,” he said.
Putin has repeatedly warned that he will not hesitate to use nuclear weapons as a last resort when he feels that all options have been exhausted in trying to seize Ukrainian territory. However, experts say these could be strategic announcements. But Biden warned of the risk of inciting widespread chaos even if the strategy is limited in a limited area.
“We have to talk about the guy we know very well…Putin doesn’t joke about the use of tactical nuclear or biological and chemical weapons…because his military is underperforming…However, I don’t think the final battle will end with the ability to easily use tactical nuclear weapons.” He commented.
“We are trying to predict what Putin’s thinking is. Where will he find a way out? Where is he not only losing his influence but not losing significant power in Russia?”, Biden said.
