Qatar bans single-use plastic bags

Qatar bans disposable plastic bags from November 15 The Qatari Ministry of Municipality announced this at a press conference. Disposable plastic bags should not be used in shopping malls, companies, warehouses, packaging, freight forwarding, or shopping areas.

Instead of single use, use reusable plastic bags, paper or cloth bags. Only products manufactured to approved standards may be used in the country. Bags made of perishable materials can also be used.

The provision states that when plastic bags are provided, a symbol must be printed on the bag clearly indicating whether they are reusable or perishable. The decision was taken by the Municipal Ministry, which has imposed a ban on plastic bags. But the cabinet recently approved it.
Authorities said the ban was aimed at protecting the environment and conserving biodiversity.
