Rahul Gandhi has now appealed to the Gujarat High Court after his appeal was rejected by the Surat Sessions Court. The order of the sessions court has been challenged in the Modi surname case. Rahul’s plea is likely to come up for hearing on Thursday. After being convicted in this case, Rahul Gandhi’s membership of Parliament had ended.
The Surat Sessions Court had on April 20 rejected Rahul Gandhi’s plea to stay his conviction. Additional Sessions Court Judge RP Mogera came to the court and said only one word on this petition – dismissed.
Judge Mogera had heard the arguments of both the parties on the matter on April 13 and reserved the verdict.

Arguments of Rahul and the opposition on the petition against the sentence
Rahul Gandhi: During the hearing, Rahul’s lawyer RS Cheema argued to Additional Sessions Court Judge RP Mogera that the defamation case was not justified. The maximum sentence was not even required in the case. He had said- Power is an exception, but the court should consider the consequences of the sentence. Should consider whether the convict will suffer more. It is unjust to get such a punishment.
Purnesh Modi who filed the defamation case had said that Rahul Gandhi is used to making defamatory statements repeatedly.
Bungalow had to be vacated after MP left, will stay with mother Sonia

Rahul Gandhi’s belongings were shifted from the bungalow located at 12 Tughlaq Lane, New Delhi on 14 April.
Rahul’s Parliament membership was canceled on 24 March. After this, the Lok Sabha Housing Committee sent a notice to Rahul to vacate the bungalow on March 27. The committee asked him to vacate the official residence at 12 Tughlaq Road by April 22. Rahul has vacated the bungalow and shifted to Sonia Gandhi’s residence.
