New Delhi: A debate was held in the Rajya Sabha yesterday on the resolution of thanks to the President’s speech. Zero hour and question hour in the Rajya Sabha were canceled for this.
Speaking during the debate, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjuna Kharge insisted that a parliamentary joint committee should be ordered to investigate the complaint made by the Hindenburg Research Institute against the Adani Group.
And when Kharge spoke, “The property of Prime Minister Modi’s close friend was Rs. 50 thousand crores in 2014. It is Rs.1 lakh crore in 2019. It has increased 13 times in the next 2.5 years. I don’t know what magic happened.”
BJP MPs strongly opposed this. At that time, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said, “The value of Adani’s assets increased due to the rise in the stock market. The government has no role in this,” he said.
Kharge continued, “I want to ask the Prime Minister why Mauna Asami is silent on the Adani issue. Why do you, who usually threaten others, hesitate to threaten businessmen?” He questioned.
Eligibility for the post: Rajya Sabha Speaker Jagadeep Dhankar condemned this and said, “Speaking like this is unbecoming of your position. Frankly everyone has the utmost respect for those who hold certain positions.
I remember what I said in this House on 8th December last that ‘The Leader of the ruling party, the Leader of the Opposition and 2 former Prime Ministers will speak in this House, so I am going to read the rules book of the House carefully’. I will reprimand anyone who disrespects even you as a senior member. Your post is a very high constitutional post. I expect you to speak accordingly.”
PM Modi’s smile: Amid heated arguments, Mallikarjuna Kharge hesitated and said, “Speaker of Rajya Sabha Jagadeep Dhankar has already told me that when he worked as a lawyer, he counted money by hand in the beginning and then when his business expanded, he bought a machine to count money.”
Thankar then folded his hands and said, “I didn’t say that.” And you may ask for a parliamentary joint committee inquiry for this too. At that time Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others in the House burst into laughter.
