The Salvadoran Football Association has condemned the killing of a referee who was violently attacked while managing a match last weekend in the capital, San Salvador.
The federation said in a statement on Monday that it condemns and rejects the physical assault of referee Jose Arnoldo Amaya, “63 years old”, by those who claim to be fans and players during the match that he administered at Toluca Stadium in San Salvador.
Amaya, a member of the National Football Referees Association in El Salvador, was violently assaulted before being taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries.
The police have not yet determined the details of what happened and are still searching for the perpetrators.
Amaya served as a referee for 20 years in town, school and amateur league matches in the Central American country.
