Cardinal Robert Sarah is going out like this. Pope Francis has accepted his resignation.
He is an African cardinal from Guinea. He has been in charge of the Vatican for 20 years. He was currently the head of the department overseeing worship and culture.
He was reportedly a very conservative priest who often clashed with the pope over theological matters. Many of the cardinal’s positions were controversial.
His reference to Islam in 2019 was a major controversy. His controversial remark was that Islam would attack the world if the Catholic Church did not intervene in immigration.
Sarah, 75, submitted her resignation in June last year. Church law required all bishops, but the pope allowed Vatican officials to stay longer. The Vatican has announced that he will be released on Saturday.

In addition to Islam, he has been critical of homosexuality. In 2015, Sarah said that “Western homosexuality, abortion ideologies, and Islamic fanaticism are like the ‘beasts’ of Nazi and communist ideology.” He also argued that homosexual unions were backward in culture and civilization.
