We cannot change what happened, but from what happened every individual and every nation should always take a lesson, said today in Ahmići, reisul-ulema of the Islamic Community (IZ) in Bosnia and Herzegovina Husein-ef. Kavazović, reports Anadolija.
As announced by the MINA news agency, reisul-ulema Kavazović attended the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the crimes committed against Bosniak civilians in Ahmići and on that occasion he spoke after the noon prayer in the local mosque.
“What we do on this day is our resistance to oblivion, our memory and reminder of what kind of person can be, what kind of evil can come out of a person and how much pain, sorrow and suffering a person can cause to a person. We had the opportunity in our lives, our generation, to see it in many places, when the cursed Satan speaks out of a man, when evil comes to him, both here in Ahmići, and in Han Ploča, and in Srebrenica, Kozarac, Prijedor, Mostar, Gornji To the Foundation and in every place where a person goes, he establishes order, but only brings disorder,” said the reisul-ulema.
He warned those present that it is necessary to reflect and talk about the causes of what happened in Ahmići, but also in all other places in Bosnia and Herzegovina where crimes were committed.
“And this event here, like each of the events I mentioned, has its own why. Today we listened to the representatives of the Hague Tribunal. What are they telling us Bosniaks, what are they telling us about? They didn’t say anything new that we didn’t know, they talk about the consequences of what happened. None of them said a single word today about the causes, what led to the crime in Ahmići and other places. It’s as if we’ve stopped talking about it, as if we’re only adding up the consequences, as if we’re only adding up the victims, and we’re not learning that there are actually causes of what we’ve come to. We should make these causes clear to ourselves every day, in every place, so that history does not repeat itself and what happened here in Ahmići does not happen again,” Kavazović pointed out.
In his address, the reisul-ulema also reminded of several Quranic verses, which, he said, as a community of Muslims, they should always keep in mind.
“Allah says obey Allah and His Messenger. Obeying Allah and the Prophet means opening the book, reading its verses, thinking about them and seeing what of those verses, of God’s signs, we can see around us every day. Everything has its why. Allah then says: Do not quarrel, because you will perish because of quarrels and disputes. In quarrels and quarrels is destruction itself. Then he says that we will not be strong, and those who wish us harm will attack us even more, that is the downfall”, stated Reisul-ulema.
He emphasized that these are eternal messages, which remind us that “what happened to us once, if there are the same causes, the same reasons for repetition, will inevitably happen again”.
“We will not be able to oppose that. If we do not know about God’s word and if we do not follow His words and instructions, of course what happened in Ahmići will be repeated in other places,” Kavazović said.
He said that “we have to look at what brought us to the situation we were in from 1992 to 1995”.
“I’m warning you, we often hear nice words, don’t let that fool us. We have to look at what brought us to this situation in which we were from 1992 to 1995 and where we are today, and whether we can even compare it. This is a key thing for this community of ours. All of us here believe in Allah and the Prophet, at least that’s what we say on the tongue, but what’s on the tongue should be in the heart, and what’s in the heart should be shown to each other every day,” said the reisul-ulema.
He emphasized that the basic question is “what is the situation today in our nation, in our Muslim community”.
“Can we trust each other, why are there so many quarrels and arguments between us, why are there so many opposing views on our future? Is it possible that we don’t live at the same time and in the same country, is it possible that we don’t have the same problems. What is happening to us? What is it that occupied us”, said Kavazović.
He also reminded the believers of the Qur’anic verse, which warns us not to take sides against those who are villains, against those who have committed crimes, against those who are preparing to commit them again.
“So, this is another warning to the Muslim community, to be alert, united and to recognize the dangers it encounters on the way. Allah warns us, so that we don’t run out of strength, without what is important and vital to us. Then Allah says: May the fire burn you. Here, not only the fire of hell is meant, but also the fire in this world. We experienced that fire, we were all in it. That is why it is very important not to be servile to those who do not wish us well. We must be determined people, we must act decisively against them, that is God’s request to us. So, let’s unite and act together, if we want to save ourselves and the generations that come after us”, said, among other things, reisul-ulema Husein-ef. Kavazovic.
In the early hours of the morning, on April 16, 1993, members of the special purpose units of the Croatian Defense Council (HVO) “Džokeri” and “Maturice” attacked the village of Ahmići, in central Bosnia. The call to prayer, the Muslim morning prayer, was the signal for the attack. 116 Bosniak civilians were killed, and the youngest victim in Ahmići was a three-month-old baby.
