Abdullah Issa Al Ansari, a local lawyer, is representing the couple in court. It is rare for the Supreme Court to order a review of a case that has been declared by the Court of Appeal.

The two were sentenced by a lower court to 10 years in prison and fined 3 lakh riyals each after being found guilty on the basis of circumstantial evidence. While pregnant, Oniba was forced by her relatives to travel to Doha for her honeymoon.
