An informed source said that a joint venture between Malaysia’s Petronas and Saudi Aramco for a refinery and petrochemical complex in Malaysia has returned to work after a two-year hiatus.
The Pengerang Refining project, part of Petronas’ $27 billion integrated Pengerang complex, consists of a 300,000 barrel per day oil refinery and a 7.7 million tons per year petrochemical complex in the southern Malaysian state of Johor.
The project, originally known as Rapid or Integrated Refining and Petrochemical Development Project, was closed in March 2020 after a fire damaged the desulfurization unit.
