Al-Ahly won the Egyptian Super Cup title after defeating Zamalek on penalties 7-6 in the final match, today, Thursday, at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in the capital, Abu Dhabi, after the original and extra time ended in a scoreless draw.
The match was enthusiastic and exciting in its four rounds, and both teams missed many opportunities that could have decided the match before resorting to suffering strikes.
Mohamed Awad gave his best start when he took away Hussein Al-Shahat’s chance from alone in the goal, and Yahya Attiya Allah followed it up with a shot that passed the post “7”.
Awad continued his brilliance and blocked a similar ball from Wissam Abu Ali, who was alone in the goal, to keep his team a clean sheet (14).
The crossbar completed what Mohamed Awad had started, when it blocked Yahya Atiyatallah’s shot, which he played from a fixed kick, but the defense then cleared it (22).
The result almost went to Zamalek despite the advantage that Al-Ahly had, when Saif Al-Jaziri scored a goal from Darbaka in front of the goal, but the video technology (the mouse) intervened and canceled the goal due to offside (30).
Before the two teams went out to the changing room, Al-Ahly missed another opportunity to advance with a free kick carried out by Wissam Abu Ali, but his ball hit the post and ended up outside the field “45 + 3”.
The advantage in the second session passed to Zamalek, which relied on transitions from defense to attack, and threatened Al-Ahly’s goal through a counterattack that ended with Zizou, who did not exploit the opportunity properly.
Al-Ahly’s threat to Mohamed Awad’s goal continued for a long time until the 70th minute, when a “peeled” ball reached Imam Ashour, and in a confrontation with the goalkeeper, he shot into the stands.
Zamalek increased its activity in the last 10 minutes, during which it missed more than one dangerous opportunity, the most notable of which was Zizou’s shot, which Mohamed El-Shenawy deflected for a corner kick.
Saif Al-Jaziri almost killed the match in the 83rd minute, when he received a ground pass from Zizou, with the goal wide open, and he strangely put it over the crossbar.
Al-Ahly regained the advantage in the first extra half after the offensive changes made by its coach Marcel Kohler, and Wissam Abu Ali missed an opportunity to score while a few steps from the goal, before the game was ruled offside.
The players of both teams became tired in the second extra half, so the play was confined to the midfield, and there was only an opportunity that Konrad Michalak missed after he headed the ball near the post.
The two teams went to penalty kicks, which ended in Al-Ahly’s favor 7-6.
