Usually, the highest liquor sales in the state take place in the month of March. Such complete figures will be available only after the end of this month. So far this financial year has seen record liquor sales. If history repeats itself, there should be a massive sell-off in March as well. If this happens, it will become the fiscal year with the highest liquor sales in the state’s history.
Currently, the budget estimate estimates liquor sales at Rs 2655.52 crore this financial year. It was later revised to 2800.45 crores. An increase of 145 crores is expected in this way.
March is also the month when licenses for bar hotels and beer wine parlors are renewed. It is estimated that the government will get 225 crores only by renewing the licenses of existing bar hotels, beer & wine parlours, Bevco outlets etc. Add excise duty, license fee and other regulatory fees, and the amount goes up to over Rs 500 crore. In this way, this financial year, it is expected that the total alcohol sales will reach 3000 crore rupees, for the first time in history.
In November last year, the government had increased the sales tax on liquor. From tomorrow, from the new financial year, the social security cess introduced by the state government in the last budget will also be applicable on liquor. With this the price will rise again
