The star Cristiano Ronaldo led the Portuguese national team to a strong start at the start of its qualifiers for the European Football Championship “Euro 2024”, where the team defeated its guest Liechtenstein national team 4-0 on Thursday.
The Portuguese national team thus scored its first three points in Group X, which also witnessed today the victory of Bosnia and Herzegovina over its Icelandic counterpart 3-0, and Slovakia drew 0-0 with Luxembourg.
The star Cristiano Ronaldo, the Saudi Al-Nasr player, played a prominent role in the match, as he scored the third and fourth goals for the Portuguese national team in the 51st and 63rd minutes, to consolidate his record as the most prominent scorer at the international level.
The first and second goals for the Portuguese national team came in the eighth and 47th minutes and were scored by Joao Cancelo and Bernardo Silva.
Ronaldo raised his tally to 120 goals, reinforcing his record for the number of international goals, in the match in which he was alone at the top of the list of the most international players in the world.
Today, Ronaldo scored the 197th international participation in his career, by one match ahead of Kuwaiti striker Bader Al-Mutawa.
Malaysian Suh Chin An ranks third on the list with 195 international matches, followed by Egyptian Ahmed Hassan in fourth place with 184 matches, and Omani Ahmed Mubarak in fifth place with 183 matches.
Ronaldo had equaled Al-Mutawa’s number when he participated with the Portuguese national team in its match against its Moroccan counterpart in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup hosted by the State of Qatar last December.
Bosnia and Herzegovina ranked second in Group X of the Euro 2024 qualifiers, with three points and a goal difference only behind Portugal, after beating its Icelandic counterpart 3-0.
The three goals for Bosnia and Herzegovina were scored by Rade Krunic (two goals) and Amar Dedic in the 14th, 40th and 63rd minutes.
