(CNN) — Rose State College in Midwest City, Oklahoma, said a suspected shooter is in custody after it locked down its campus amid reports of an active shooting Monday.
“We are currently experiencing an active attacker situation on campus,” the university posted moments earlier. “Please shelter in place and follow the instructions of the officers. More information will be provided as it becomes available,” he added.
Rose State College is a public two-year institution, it says on its website. It has more than 13,000 students.
The university confirmed in a second tweet that the suspect is in custody. Midwest City, Oklahoma Police Chief Sid Porter confirmed Monday at a press conference that a man is in custody and added that a man lost his life.
Porter said the students and staff did a “fantastic job” responding to the incident.
“The school two/three weeks ago had an active shooting drill, which everyone knows about and we practiced all of this.”
Minutes later, the institution reported that the closure on campus had ended and that all activities and classes for the rest of the day had been cancelled.
CNN has contacted the mayor’s office, the Midwest City Police Department, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Rose State College for more information.
